Rhinobond Technology Helps Increase Production Speed at the Dan Pearl Library

RhinoBond heat induction welding technology helps Advanced Roofing to increase production speed while installing a new GAF TPO Roofing system at Broward County Dan Pearl Public Library in Sunrise, Florida.

Built-in 1995, the Sunrise Dan Pearl Branch Library provides convenient access to a full range of innovative and cost-effective library services that meet the needs of the people of Broward County, Florida. Over the years, the 19,000-square-foot roof system started to leak in multiple areas of the roof, causing water to seep over the reception area every time it rained. At the end of its service life, temporary fixes were often needed to stop the ongoing leaks. However, these constant repairs were increasing the operational budget while the issues remained unresolved. The roofing system was at risk of eventual failure that could potentially close the building.

Solution

With more than 32 years of experience working with local government agencies in Florida, Advanced Roofing, Inc. was selected by the Broward County Commission to completely replace the library’s roof with a GAF Sure-Weld 60 mil EverGuard TPO and RhinoBond Heat Induction Welding attachment system. The result was a faster installation that was cost-efficient and enhanced the roof’s wind uplift resistance while providing a 20-year NDL warranty. Led by Project Manager Matt Cooper, the eight-person crew was able to see increased efficiencies in production by securing the RhinoBond fastening plates to the Lightweight Insulating Concrete, eliminating the need for an additional cover board layer. The membrane was directly welded to the specially coated plates used to secure it to the structural deck.

Overcoming Challenges

Combining a standing seam metal roofing system with an extreme roof radius was just one of the challenges the crew overcame during the roof install, which also included the unexpected removal of a bee’s nest. Safety was a top priority, given the steep slope of the radius roof and the fact that work was done during library operating hours. To ensure the safety of the team and occupants, the crew was fully tied off and all safety measures were taken. The new roofing system was completed in January, on time and within budget, without any disruptions to library staff and visitors.
