Advanced Roofing Hosts Students for Second Annual National Solar Day

COCONUT CREEK, FL – About 50 elementary and middle school students will learn about renewable energy and participate in solar energy activities to kickoff the second annual National Solar Day at Junior Achievement of South Florida on Friday, June 18th at 10 a.m. on the Broward College North campus.

The students will learn about the benefits of solar and how the United States will become a better country as a result of less dependence on oil. Also, experts will answer questions relating from students about the BP Oil Spill.

“The students will learn how much better off the earth would be if the power of the sun provided energy for our homes, schools, businesses and cars,” said Rob Kornahrens of Advanced Roofing.  “Instead of soaking up oil spills with billions of dollars, we could bask in the glow of cleaner air, a green economy and reduce the fear of outages. Solar is the best safeguard for our health and livelihoods in the years ahead.”

For practical purposes, the sun is capable of providing enough solar energy on U.S. commercial rooftops that if they were covered with solar panels, today’s technology would generate 36% of the energy in the U.S., according to industry studies.  By changing our country’s energy portfolio, the United States could easily integrate 30% renewable energy with solar.

Advanced Roofing offers a new website, www.solarspill.com that explains how the sun ‘spills` enough energy onto the earth every 4 minutes which could provide electricity to meet the needs of the current world population.

The South Plantation High School Solar Knights Racing Team will demonstrate the benefits of solar energy using hands-on student-generated curriculum. A dozen high school students will teach the younger students how solar cells work.  Younger students will also learn how shading and angle of incidence affects solar cell performance by using small solar cells.

The team’s original solar car, the Solar Knight I, will be on hand to give students rides in the parking lot.  The future of the program, the Solar Knight III, will also be on display. Interactive lessons will teach the younger students about the importance of solar energy and will inspire them to do their part in helping the environment.

Advanced Roofing is participating with Solar Day to provide both children and adults with the opportunity, potential and the power solar energy plays in a future that could thrive with energy diversification.
