Solar Knights Win Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge with the Assistance of Advanced Green Technologies
Fort Lauderdale, FL (July 20, 2009) - The South Plantation High School Solar Knights participated in the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge in Texas, taking home the first-place trophy for the Classic Division.
After four days on the Texas Motor Speedway, the Solar Knights completed a total of 395 laps, over 592 miles, to beat the former number one ranked team by five laps making this challenge one of the closest solar car races in history. The winning solar car developed by the SPHS Solar Knights is sponsored by Advanced Green Technologies, a renewable energy solutions provider that focuses on solar photovoltaic systems.

The SPHS Solar Knights were also awarded with the Hunt Oil Award for the car with the best engineering. The Solar Knight vehicle was the only solar car of all competitors to have sophisticated telemetry and an advanced aerodynamic design. In addition, team leader Bryan Delgado was honored with the Order of the Solar Cell Award for demonstrating his commitment to solar car racing.
The Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge will take on a new dynamic for 2010 as a road race from Texas through New Mexico and Arizona and on to the finish line in northern Colorado. The students representing the SPHS Solar Knights are already making plans for modifications of their solar car for next year’s road race.
