Preventative maintenance for your roof is something that everyone should think about. You can’t protect a roof from the elements, but you can make sure it’s in tip-top shape year-round. The best preventative maintenance you can do to make sure your roof is functioning properly is to perform semi-annual inspections. When performing semi-annual inspections on your roof, do them in the late fall and early spring. Look for loose shingles, or missing or cracked tiles. Check flashings around chimneys, vents and skylights, and other roof penetrations on your roof. Also check the fascia boards near the joints of all eave metal for signs of leaks or rot. Keep roof gutters and downspouts clean and free of leaves and other debris, and keep trees trimmed and away from the building.
