Sticky Business Lightning Season is Here! Roof Reflectivity: Cool Savings Save Up To $50,000 on Renewable Energy Out of the Box

In 1993, the Solar Car Challenge was established to help motivate high school students in science and engineering, and increase alternative energy awareness, in addition to teaching how to build road-worthy solar-powered cars. The program provides a safe environment for teams to display their solar cars on the world-famous Texas Motor Speedway, or enjoy a fun cross-country drive to share their projects with millions of people.

Led by environmental science teacher Allan Phipps, the Solar Knights is an alternative energy club consisting of high school students at South Plantation High. The Solar Knights have won national awards and recognition for their achievements in building and racing solar cars, and are currently working on the new vehicles SKII and SKIII for use in future competitions.

In July 2011, the Solar Car Challenge closed-track event was held at the Texas Motor Speedway. All teams should be congratulated but it is the Solar Knights that placed first and took home the title Champion.
